Derek Fincham, MS, CRC
Coordinator, MAP

Derek is the Coordinator of the Mountaineer Academic Program. Within this role, he organizes events, meets with participants to establish services, and carries out weekly coaching sessions with students enrolled in MAP academic coaching. He works as a liaison between MAP participants and Learning Partners and also oversees the selection and training of MAP Learning Partners and graduate assistants. Derek encourages all MAP participants to take time and stop by his office located in the MAP Tutoring Center to talk about their courses and their program experiences.

Ashley Tasker, MS, LPC, CRC
MAP Academic Coach

Ashley is an academic coach for the Mountaineer Academic Program. Within this role, she carries out weekly coaching sessions with students enrolled in MAP academic coaching. Topics she discusses with students in these sessions include time management, study skills and self advocacy. Ashley encourages all MAP participants to take time and stop by and meet with her in the MAP Tutoring Center to talk about their courses and their program experiences.

Mike Fennell, BA
Graduate Assistant

Mike is in his third year as a MAP graduate assistant. Within his position, Mike assists in maintaining contact between MAP and Learning Partners. Mike also oversees and reviews submitted tutoring notes to ensure MAP has an understanding of the academic progress of program participants. He also carries out one-on-one tutoring with program participants and assists with the daily operations of the MAP Tutoring Center. Mike’s university knowledge and experience as an academic tutor make him a great asset to the Mountaineer Academic Program.

MAP Learning Partners

The Mountaineer Academic Program currently employs over forty academic Learning Partners (tutors). Learning Partners have varying academic backgrounds and are assigned to students based on their specific skills and the student’s academic needs. MAP Learning Partners are energetic, knowledgeable students who are always willing to go the extra mile to assist program participants.
