Accessible Housing

Applying for Accommodations

West Virginia University provides accessible housing for students with disabilities. Housing accommodations are provided on the basis of appropriate documentation including a diagnosis, functional limitations and the need for accommodations. Students who require a disability-related accommodation must contact the Office of Disability Services in addition to WVU Housing & Residential Education.

The Office of Disability Services requires that students submit appropriate documentation that substantiates their need for accessible housing. Click here for documentation criteria for housing accommodations. Documentation should be sent to:

Students must meet all timelines and deadlines of the application process. Review and approval of documentation for housing accommodations requests can be a lengthy process. It is very important to apply for housing accommodations as soon as possible. Once documentation is approved by the Office of Disability Services, the Housing & Residential Education office will be notified of a student’s necessary accommodations.

The Office of Disability Services will notify students as to the appropriateness of their documentation.

The University Housing Office will notify students of their housing arrangements.

Applying for Housing

WVU Housing & Residential Education application deadlines must be maintained for all housing requests. Requests for accessible housing must be communicated prior to housing request deadlines and in time for the documentation of disability to be reviewed. Although approval for accessible housing is made through the Office of Disability Services, all other policies and procedures by the Housing and University Apartments Office apply.
